This month’s feature room is one we are especially excited to share because it turned out absolutely beautiful. In fact, Jean said it may be her favorite bedding ensemble we have ever done and around here, that is saying something!
Our client’s home has a lovely Mediterranean-meets-French feel that is casual, elegant, and full of warmth. We knew we wanted the bedding to feel layered and special, but still soft and livable.
As we often do with custom design, we began by searching for what I like to call the “inspired fabric” that one fabric that sets the tone for everything else.
For this room, the perfect starting point was a soft French blue toile print. It had just the right combination of pattern, charm, and elegance. From there, we built the rest of the ensemble around it, adding textured tone-on-tone fabrics, beautiful coordinating patterns, and trims that gave each piece its own special detail.

Our flat lay shows the process in action, with fabrics and trims spread out on the table as we worked through the best combinations. Custom bedding is not just about choosing pretty fabrics. It is about deciding where each fabric should be used, which trim belongs on which pillow, how the pieces layer together, and how the finished bed will feel as a whole.

This project included several rounds of revisions, sketches, trim selections, and even a few replacements when some of our original trims were discontinued. That is all part of the custom process — and it is also what makes the final result feel so personal and one of a kind. In addition to meeting in our showroom, there were also the in-home meetings to see the fabrics in the room to be sure they all worked well with the existing bedroom furnishings, plus a final measure for the drop of the comforter and bed scarf. There were several emails and phone conversations with our talented workroom to be sure the tassel trim was placed in the precise spot on the bed scarf to lay over the edge of the bed just right.

The finished ensemble is completely custom, from the fabric selection and trim applications to the pillow sizes and inserts themselves. Every detail was chosen specifically for this room and this client, creating a bed that feels elegant, collected, and beautifully tailored.
We are so excited to reveal this project and share a peek behind the scenes of how a custom bedding ensemble comes together. It is a perfect example of why we love soft goods so much: the right fabrics, textures, and trims can transform a bedroom into something truly special.
