Biophilic Design ~ Good for the Body & Soul
If you find yourself happiest when you are having a cup of coffee out on your patio, or walking barefoot in the park, it is because we are hard-wired to interact with our natural environment. It turns out that research confirms a strong tie between exposure to nature and better physical & mental health. Thanks so advances in technology, it’s easy to measure that connection scientific all through cardio function, galvanic skin response and other biometrics.
A Harvard study proved that participants responded better to a stressful situation when they operated in a virtually stimulated biophilic enviroment. Other studies reveal being exposed to nature slows down our heart rate and reduces the levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
So, we love nature and want to surround ourselves with it ~ that brings me to the growing trend known as “Biophilic Design”. It is designing with nature in many different ways inside your home and office. Through the use of colors inspired by nature, botanical imagery, using natural materials and even through the architecture itself, we can bring nature indoors.
“When you look at an oak tree with all of those points & leaves, you have something that is wildly attractive to our brains ~ the perfect example of organized complexity. We now know that our brain is naturally attracted to organized complexity, because it’s what we’ve lived with for millions of years.”
